SAN DIEGO (April 28, 2022) Capt. Timothy Brown, commanding officer, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center San Diego, Tim Ruth, Navy 5G-NextG Pilot Initiatives Integrated Product Team Lead, Amanda Toman, Acting Principal Director for 5G, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Brian Laird, Assistant Commander for Supply Chain Technology and Systems Integration for NAVSUP, and Lance Spencer, Client Executive Vice President, AT&T Global Public Sector, cut the ribbon at a ceremony for the 5G-enabled Smart Warehouse, April 28, 2022. “5G has the potential to affect all aspects of the Department of Defense from front-line warfighting to back-end logistics,” said Toman. The Smart Warehouse project focuses on trans-shipment between shore facilities and naval units to increase the efficiency and fidelity of naval logistic operations, including identification, recording, organization, storage, retrieval, and transportation of material and supplies.
